Job Description

EdPlus at ASU is a dynamic unit of Arizona State University focused on the design and scalable delivery of digital teaching and learning models to increase student success and reduce barriers to achievement in higher education. Dreamscape Learn (DSL) is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best cinematic storytelling to deliver unique virtual reality (VR) and 2D labs and full course experiences which are demonstrably efficacious, readily scalable and emotionally engaging. These VR labs combine the emotional power of Hollywood storytelling, the visceral excitement of theme park rides, and an extraordinary mix of full body tracking and interactivity to create stories and worlds that push the limits of what is possible in virtual reality.

We’re seeking a creative, self-motivated, and collaborative VR Sound Engineer. This opportunity could be an ideal fit if you possess a strong passion for creating and delivering cutting-edge educational products and solutions, encompassing virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Under general direction, the VR Sound Engineer will take on a variety of tasks, both independently and in collaboration with other artists, game developers, project leads, and other stakeholders, using emerging technology tools and artificial intelligence to create new story-driven experiences. This individual will record, mix and edit music and audio for our productions using a creative mind, good ear, and technical skill.

For the first three months, this position will be required to travel to Los Angeles up to 5 days per week for comprehensive training facilitated by the expert LA Dreamscape Learn team. These business trips will be at ASU's expense subject to travel policies and procedures found here .

 
Essential Duties:
  • Record, edit and mix audio tracks (instruments, foley, voice over, vocals etc.).
  • Record, edit and design sound effects using industry standard methods and tools.
  • Creation of dynamic audio, i.e. beds, loops etc.
  • Enhance sound quality and add sound effects to recordings.
  • Work with video editors to synchronize video with audio tracks.
  • Collaborate with others to come up with creative solutions, identify constraints, and to provide feasibility recommendations.
  • Follow instructions and details from project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain sound libraries.
  • Resolve technical issues when they arise.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a program with concentration in music performance, music technology, audio recording and/or broadcast production or the equivalent; AND two years of progressively responsible experience in high fidelity audio recording and classical, jazz or acoustic music program production and/or live broadcast program production; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Valid drivers license with clean driving record.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Evidence of a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Evidence of technical expertise in sound engineering techniques (e.g. equalization).
  • Experience with sound editing and recording equipment (e.g. mixing consoles).
  • Experience with Dreamscape Learn’s SDK platform.
  • Experience with VO and foley recording and processing techniques and tools.
  • Experience with sound design.
  • Evidence of working knowledge of recording software and hardware (e.g. Pro Tools).
  • Excellent hearing and manual dexterity.
  • Evidence of creativity and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated efficiency in learning new programs and procedures.
  • Experience with Project Management Tools such as Jira, Shotgun, Trello, etc.
  • Experience with version control software such as Perforce, Plastic, SVN, Git, Bit Bucket.
  • Experience working with educational content. 
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing creative direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
