Tenure Status Non-Tenure Track Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Japanese Studies, Second Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, Comparative Literature or a related field, with an emphasis in Japanese. Applicants must have their degree in hand at time of appointment. Position Summary The Department of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies at the University of Georgia invites applicants for the position of Lecturer in Japanese, to begin August 1, 2024. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Duties include teaching introductory, intermediate, and advanced Japanese language courses. Additional Requirements
  • Candidates with a non-terminal degree must document exceptional accomplishments in their field or in the teaching of Japanese language and must be approved for a terminal degree exception before hire.
  • Native or near-native fluency in both Japanese and English.
  • Three years of experience teaching Japanese language at the undergraduate level 
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • A record of teaching excellence
  • Strong commitment to effective language pedagogy, teaching supervision and mentorship
