Job Description

1. Background

Syrbanism is a non-profit organisation based in Berlin, Germany that aims at simplifying the technical language of urban policies in Syria to become accessible to all non-expert citizens through provision of information and support for an informed decision-making for a more peaceful future for Syria. Syrbanism areas of actions include mainly information; research; policies analysis; advocacy support; knowledge sharing & networking; as well as urban alternatives and capacity building provision. These areas operate in different urban development sectors such as Sustainable Development; Housing Land and Property (HLP); Informality, Participatory Design; Rural/urban Politics; Heritage; Public space & Placemaking.

2. Position: 

Syrbanism is currently seeking a Fundraising Consultant whose key responsibilities will include the implementation of effective fundraising strategies. This will involve identifying new sources of funding and cultivating relationships with potential donors. A key objective will be to strategically increase the overall funding of the organisation to ensure its sustainable growth and impact.

3. Scope of Work:

The consultant is expected to carry out the following tasks 

• Start working with the current map of potential funding sources, including individual donors, corporate sponsors, and government funding and gradually update this mapping. 
• Formulate a detailed fundraising action plan, covering both short and long term objectives.
• Support in establishing an outreach plan with donors and stakeholders.
• Preparation and submission of min. 4 -5 grant proposals and funding applications, contributing to the overall financial sustainability of the organisation.

4. Deliverables:

The Consultant is expected to deliver the following:

• A detailed fundraising action plan 
• Updated list of potential funding sources with a prioritised approach for both short and long term.
• 4 -5 Grant proposals and funding applications.
• Fundraising communications materials.

5. Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of professional experience in a comparable position 
• Proven experience in successful fundraising for non-profit organisations. 
• Strong knowledge of fundraising strategies and techniques.
• Knowledge about stakeholder participation and negotiations 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic is a plus.
• Familiarity with the sector and potential funding sources.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the organization’s team.

6. Duration and Remuneration:

The position is a freelance consultancy with an estimated duration of 4 months starting in March 2024. Payment will be on an invoice basis following successful delivery. The ability to provide an invoice and a bank account is essential.
