Catamount Community Service Officer Posting Summary The Catamount Community Service Officer or "CCSO" position is an unarmed civilian employee who supports public safety operations while assigned to the University of Vermont Police Services Department. This position is responsible for performing a variety of non-law enforcement duties. However, they are vitally important to the overall public safety apparatus available to the University of Vermont community members to maintain and expand relationships among its students, staff, and partners.
- Ensure the safety of the campus community police personnel and the public by promptly and appropriately responding to calls for service.
- Prioritize calls, gather and relay information, remain aware of changing situations, communicate pertinent information effectively, notify additional resources as necessary utilizing understanding of procedures and policies.
- Determine priorities among simultaneous requests and messages.
- Actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.
- Reports to the Deputy Chief
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) High school diploma and one to two years related experience. Valid driver's license or ability to obtain, and driver's check required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Knowledge of, and ability to, use basic hand tools, basic writing skills, and effective interpersonal skills and service orientation with educational focus required. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace community, sustainability, and delivering exceptional value and great experience to customers required.
Desirable Qualifications Previous policing or community service experience, and demonstrated ability to maintain composure and make appropriate decisions when reacting to a variety of situations which may endanger the safety of persons or property.
Anticipated Pay Range $20 - $24/hr; will be based on union contract currently being negotiated
Other Information Special Conditions Weekend work required, Non-standard work hours required, A probationary period may be required, This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position, A post-offer pre-employment (POPE test) physical examination is required
