Position Overview

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with advanced expertise in AI-driven imaging analysis and multi-omics integration to support a suite of NASA-funded experiments at the interface of oncology and space medicine. This position will lead computational efforts in analyzing datasets from spaceflight-exposed cancer organoids, International Space Station (ISS) experiments, and microgravity studies.

You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team of molecular biologists, engineers, and translational oncology experts to extract mechanistic insights from both Earth-based and space-derived models.

  • Develop and deploy AI/ML pipelines for the analysis of histological and spatial imaging data (e.g., 3D microscopy, H&E, multiplex IF).
  • Perform multi-omics integration (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell, proteomics) from organoid models flown aboard the ISS Laboratory .
  • Analyze datasets from NASA resources such as GeneLab , Life Sciences Data Archive (LSDA) , and in-house studies.
  • Co-develop spatially-resolved omics pipelines in combination with AI-based histopathological analysis.
  • Collaborate on study design, data interpretation, and preparation of grant reports, publications, and patent filings .

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or Engineering, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, computer vision , and biomedical image analysis .
  • Experience with Python, R , and ML libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow , or scikit-learn or other AI tools.
  • Proficiency in analyzing omics datasets and pipelines (e.g., STAR, Seurat, DESeq2).
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in cancer biology, bioinformatics, or computational imaging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with space biology datasets , including NASA GeneLab , ISS research data , or microgravity analog platforms.
  • Familiarity with spatial transcriptomics, digital pathology tools (e.g., QuPath , CellProfiler , Napari ), or radiomics workflows.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced biotech or startup environments.
