WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
Summary
The NHL is looking for an analyst to join the Research & Insights team, which functions as a knowledge center across the league’s business units and stakeholders. The team uncovers strategic insights to inform optimization across the NHL ecosystem, with a focus on developing the fanbase and deepening engagement. The team conducts primary research (largely via third-party research vendors) and leverages syndicated data sources to gauge consumer motivations, preferences, and behaviors. The team analyzes data, synthesizes learnings into actionable insights, and develops data narratives to communicate findings. This role will focus primarily on partnerships, sales, and solutions research, and will work closely with the Research Manager to support the NHL’s Business Development department. The analyst will also support research initiatives across the NHL, including domestic and global fan development, brand and club health/tracking, innovation and growth strategy, and marketing/fan engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Be an established expert and go-to resource for fan insights utilizing both primary and syndicated resources to support strategy, new business, and partner renewal initiatives.
Mine and leverage data sources, and partner with internal clients, to monitor and distill NHL fan/market insights pertaining to behaviors, consumption, and perceptions.
Support Business Development initiatives by analyzing data across sources to help build compelling stories to prospective partners, and support current partners throughout the partnership life cycle (renewal, campaign recaps, etc.).
Assist in the design of questionnaires, program / script surveys, analyze and create reports that draw out meaningful insights to inform strategic decisions.
Manage client relationships internally and with first-party research agencies.
Pull, clean, and analyze robust data sets to fulfill regular ad hoc requests, with a focus on actionable insights tailored to each business question.
Translate research data into concise, actionable insights and recommendations through visual, creative, and story-driven reports; help stakeholders understand narratives around NHL fans, brand health, partner/category engagement, and partnership impact.
Collaborate with other business units to provide holistic, story-driven insights around fan profiles and partnership effectiveness.
Demonstrate organization to manage multiple projects and share best practices across departments.
Qualifications
Knowledge Areas/Experience — Required
Familiarity with syndicated research products and interfaces (e.g., YouGov, Nielsen Scarborough, Global Web Index).
Expertise in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, including charting, formulas, pivot tables, and lookups.
Excellent communication skills and ability to distill complex ideas into creative, data-driven reports/narratives.
Analytical and critical thinker who can evaluate large data sets and extract meaningful findings and solutions.
Understanding of research methodologies and sampling strategies.
Team player with flexibility and collaboration skills; ability to work independently and with cross-departmental teams.
Attention to detail, proactive project management, and strong relationship-building skills.
Knowledge Areas/Experience — Preferred

Enthusiasm for working with data and a desire to continuously learn.

Education/Certifications
Bachelor’s degree required. 1-2 years’ work experience; sports/entertainment experience is a plus.

Benefits, Salary, and Employment Details
The NHL offers U.S. regular, full-time employees a range of benefits and programs, including Paid Time Off (PTO), holidays, health benefits from day one, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a digital wellness resource, flexible hybrid work schedules, and various employee supports. Salary range for this role is $65-70K. The final base pay will be determined based on experience, training, market demands, and location.
