Academic Director, Master of Science in Legal Studies (MSLS) Program, and Lecturer of Law - Cornell Law School

Founded in 1887, Cornell Law School is a top-tier law school, currently ranked 13th by U.S. News & World Report. We offer a 3-year JD program for about 200 students per class, a one-year LLM program for about 90 students from countries throughout the world, and a doctoral (JSD) program for about 2-3 new students per year. Cornell Law School has 41 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including 20 with chaired faculty positions; and 15 clinical professors in the Lawyering Program and in clinics at the local, national, and international level. Cornell Law School invites applications for a full-time (12-month) position as Academic Director for the Master of Science in Legal Studies (MSLS) Program and Lecturer of Law, commencing in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Responsibilities of the position include MSLS Program curriculum review and delivery, developing and implementing program policies, faculty recruitment and onboarding, course development, oversight of the MSLS capstone project, and providing program reporting/feedback.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the long-term, presumptively renewable contract track with a path towards promotion to Senior Lecturer. Benefits are competitive and include a budget for research and travel.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have the following:

• A JD or JSD degree from an accredited institution, and at least five years of law practice experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong academic background.
• 3-5 years of experience in online education, in facilitating online courses, and in managing multiple classes of students per course. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in developing online courses.
• 2+ years of experience working with Canvas. Preference will be given to candidates who can run course analytics, and who have a proficient knowledge of Canvas.
• Strong legal, writing, communication, interpersonal, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience building and/or defining a curriculum.
• Strong supervisory and workload management skills.
• Ability to provide clear and concise feedback to students' assignments on a wide range of legal subject matters.
• Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence, and to service.
• Demonstrated commitment to student development. Preference will be given to candidates with good course evaluations.
• The ability to work collaboratively in a variety of contexts.

Pay Range:

$49,700.00 - $122,000.00

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

• Prior relevant work or industry experience.

• Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

• Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)

• Unique applicable skills.
